Big Sunday happily welcomes you to Our Really Big Community Calendar.
We try to include all kinds of volunteering and helping opportunities for all kinds of interests, talents, passions, and ages! As you’ll see, these include volunteering opportunities (one-time and long-term) as well as the chance to support a nonprofit by attending fundraising events. Plus, of course, we include all of Big Sunday’s homegrown events, too! Whoever you are, and whatever you do, there is someone out there who could use your help.

The Paseo Island Festival (or as they call it – PIF) is Paseo Del Rey Elementary's biggest event and fundraiser of the year, and is basically a fair with an Island theme. There's food, games, entertainment (music and dancers), and a silent auction. The event takes place from 11:00 am – 4:00 pm. Setup begins in the morning at 8:00 am and clean up until about 6:00 pm.
For the most part, volunteers are asked to assist with collecting tickets and staffing the game booths, jump houses, and food booths. In the morning volunteers will help set up tables, and if they are around at the end of the event, once the event's closed down, volunteers can assist with breakdown and cleanup. Volunteers will be provided vouchers or tickets for a meal; please dress comfortably and bring sunscreen.
It's a fun day overall with a lot of activity!

Looking for an awesome volunteer opportunity? Join our friends at AHEAD With Horses Saturday, June 11th, 2016, for their Children’s Annual Demonstration and Fun Day. Volunteers are needed from 9 am – 5 pm (you do not have to come for the entire time); available shifts are 9 am – 1 pm, 12 pm – 4 pm, and 3 pm – 5 pm (shorter shifts of 2 hours are acceptable).
Volunteers will assist with set-up, running game booths, bbq, silent auction, clean up, etc.

The Emerson Avenue Community Garden Club is hosting the first annual Westchester Arts & Music (aka WAM!) Block Party, a free, day-long celebration filled with live music/dance, art, food and community. They’re closing down the street and opening up the garden for arts and crafts activities for all ages and a diverse mix of performances, vendors and food trucks, including Kogi BBQ! Who doesn’t like to play dress up, right? Our pals at Ahead With Horses will host their Annual Costume Day on Saturday, October 29th, 2016. Volunteers are needed from 9 am – 4 pm. Available shifts are 9 am – 12 pm; 11 am – 2 pm and 1 pm – 4 pm. Volunteers who plan to attend from 11 am – 2 pm are asked to wear a costume. Fun, right? Volunteers will assist with set-up, running game booths, arts and crafts, handing out candy and possibly help with leading the horses and clean up. Our pals at Michelson Found Animals Culver City are hosting a big adoption event with several other animal rescues in the area with one goal – to find furr-ever homes for as many of the adoptable cats and dogs as possible! Create Now is hosting an arts festival on Saturday, May 13th from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Venice Hope Park, located across the street from Create Now’s facility near STAPLES. Dozens of kids will perform in a Talent Show and earn prizes.
There will be a DJ, fun arts and crafts activities, face painting, balloon twisters, popular children's characters and giveaways for the disadvantaged families in the local neighborhood.
Come cheer on young performers, and then attend Create Now’s After-Party from 12:00-2:00 pm at their center where you can meet some of the youth and learn more about Create Now. River LA is collaborating with communities and local stakeholders to reclaim street ends along the LA River for public use. And this summer, they have tons of events lined up to activate these spaces. On May 27th, join Broccoli City and River LA for a celebration of diversity and nature along the LA River. DJ + food + loads of fun await you along the river.
Volunteers will help set-up and decorate, escort seniors, help manage lines, serve dinner, act as wait staff, hand out thank you gifts, etc. Volunteers will need to be able to be on their feet and enjoying interacting with others. Around 200 attendees are expected at this event and they'll really need some help to pull off this event! Participants must be high school age or above, please!
